Throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, Omie Deut benefited from the guiding hand of Addison L. Winship II '42. Ad served the Lodge as Undergraduate Advisor and as a House Corporation officer and director. The undergraduates relied on his firm but understanding approach to problems large and small. Ad always tried to divert the boys from trouble without dousing their fabled energy and good humor. The short tribute below was written in 1982 by Ad's good friend Jack Manchester '33, former Predident and Director of the House Corporation.

They call him 'Mr. Omie Deut!". "Ad" Winship is probably known by more Omicron Deuteron alumni than any other Theta Delt who frequented the Lodge as 11 West Wheelock Street in Hanover, N.H.

Ad entered Dartmouth in 1938 out of Melrose High School in Melrose, Massachusetts. Since his father, Roger "Pete" Winship, Class of 1915, was such a popular brother, it was only natural that Ad should pledge Theta Delta Chi in the fall of 1939. He immediately becaome very active in fraternity and college affairs, having been Treasurer of his class, Pledge King in 1939, and Rush Chairman in 1940 and 1941. He was an economics major and graduated with the illustrious class of 1942.

Immediately upon graduation, Ad joined the Navy, and as a senior grade officer he saw combat duty on the U.S.S. North Carolina. On his discharge from the service in 1946, he went to work for the General Ice Cream Co. (now Kraft Co.) and soon served as Division Sales Manager in Boston, and later in Buffalo.

It was in 1959 that Ad's career at Dartmouth College and Theta Delta Chi was renewed. At that time, he was invited to Hanover to become a special assistant to President Dickey with particular liason with business and industry. This led into major fund-raising activities as Director of Development in 1966. Ten years later in 1976 he was appointed he was appointed Vice-President for Alumni Affairs and Development. It was during this period that Ad guided the College's successful Alumni Fund and Third Century Fund, and the enormous responsibility for the $185m Campaign for Dartmouth. His class activities included Class Agent 1947-1952, and Class Executive Committee Member. He was also an Alumni Council member from 1951 to 1954. It was no wonder that his class presented him with a special award at his 25th reunion in 1967!

In the meantime, Ad found the time and the interest in the undergraduate charge to be a Director of the House Corporation from 1947 to [1982] and Chairman of the Undergraduate Relations Committee from 1959-1980.

After over 42 years of almost continuous service to his fraternity, Ad has decided to step down, and his duties will be assumed by two brothers. Bill Breed '52 has taken over as Treasurer, and Tom Csatari '74 has done a fine job as Chairman of the important Undergraduate Relations Committee.

On a personal note, Ad married Christine "Kiki" Andover, a graduate of Skidmore College, in 1943. They have resided at 3 Parkway, Hanover, since 1960.

So it is that Ad Winship should be enshrined in the Omicron Deuteron Hall of Fame along with such illustrious leaders of the fraternity as J. Frank Drake 1902, Connie and Leslie Snow 1912, Leon Tuck, Dr. Jack Bowler 1915, Governor Lane Dwinell '28, John Meck '33, and many others.
