Letter from the President of the House Corporation
Dear Brothers,
The sesquicentennial of the Omicron Deuteron Charge of Theta Delta Chi was incredible. The verbiage on the stole worn at the Omega service by the Reverend Joel Hubbard ’82 said it all, JOY! Dick Wallace ’70 also summed it up well; “What a Celebration from start to finish! So much fun; great chemistry and warmth among all…..It was fun for me to reconnect with the 68s and 69s and I enjoyed making fast friends with those much younger - we share the same experiences just at different times.” Rather than describe the weekend we will use the space for pictures. Please share any pictures of the weekend on our private “TDX-Dartmouth Alumni” group or email them to brothers@thetadelt.com.
Many brothers said we should not wait another twenty-five years for such a gathering and the board at its next meeting will discuss perhaps doing something every 5 years (but not on such a scale)
We achieved the objective of celebrating our 150th and now we need to finish the job of ensuring the next 150 years of our Fraternity. We still need to raise $300,000 to reach our goal of $750,000 so please give generously. Thanks to all those listed and instructions for giving are on the back page. All who give $1,500 will have their names on a plaque to be placed in the 3rd floor library of the Fragge ’87 addition.
Moreover, as part of the College’s 250th “Call to Lead” campaign we are trying to assist Dartmouth by raising money for the “Theta Delta Chi Scholarship Fund in honor of J. Frank Drake 1902 and Addison L. Winship 1942.” This fund was started at the College in 1996 with the proceeds of the old TDX “Student Scholarship Fund” which was a private educational foundation and the source of the scholarship checks handed out at the Pledge Banquets from 1947 to 1987. The fund at the College now goes to provide financial aid to a senior brother in the house. Please consider specifying this fund when you give to the “Call to Lead”.
Most importantly the Charge continues to thrive. Thirty new members joined the Lodge including a Marine Corps veteran, brothers from Pakistan and England and another Okie. All-in-all a fine group of scholars, athletes and gentlemen. Following this year’s pledge banquet the new brothers, assisted by the Executive Director of the National, were all formally initiated into the brotherhood using the same ritual used 150 years ago.
Thank you for your continued loyalty and support of Theta Delta Chi at Dartmouth.
In the Bonds,
Jim
